Myofascial trigger point Therapy

We utilize different manual techniques such as massage, mobilization with movement, muscle energy techniques, joint mobilizations, and myofascial trigger point therapy. We like to start our treatments with manual therapy due to our belief in improving soft tissue pliability and joint motion in order to increase motion and flexibility.  Myofascial trigger point therapy is the study of the trigger point map of the body. It studies referral patterns from active trigger points which are taut bands in the muscles. Releasing trigger points allows the muscle to work better and decreases bodily pains and aches.

Vestibular (Vertigo) Treatment

It is the sudden onset of spinning sensation that’s usually triggered by quick movement of your head. It can be onset after an ear infection, allergies or a cold. Sometimes vertigo can also be due to a medication side effect, faulty posture, and neck problems.

The most common type of vertigo is BPPV which can easily be assessed and treated with Physical Therapy. Vertigo assessment includes taking down your past medical history to determine contributing factors, eye exam to assess gaze stabilization and coordination, inner ear and neck assessment followed by balance assessment. Most people report a significant improvement in their symptoms after 2-3 visits.

Spine

Our therapists specialize in treating, diagnosing and preventing spinal issues as well as other musculoskeletal problems throughout the body in patients of all ages. We work to analyze movement and test muscle strength, flexibility and joint mechanics in efforts to alleviate your pain and symptoms. We then work to provide a  personalized treatment plan to help reduce your pain, improve function, and reduce the likelihood that your  back or neck pain will return in the future.

Some of our interventions include:

  • Personalized exercise program
  • Joint mobilization
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy
  • Customized Home Exercise Program
  • Modalities such as Electric Stimulation, Heat and Ice
  • Patient Education on Injury Prevention and Symptom Management

Headaches

If you experience frequent headaches, the physical therapists at Get Well Physical Therapy can help you figure out the cause and how to treat them. Many people who suffer from headaches often experience concurrent neck pain, muscle tension, joint stiffness, and/or discomfort concurrently with the onset of symptoms. Muscles in the cervical region can become tense and tight from things such as overuse, static postural loading (like sitting at a computer), or traumatic events. These tense and tight muscles can cause referred pain from the cervical region to the head and might be the cause of your headaches.

Our role in treating headaches includes:

  • Identifying a mechanical trigger of the headache symptoms
  • Restore mobility to the joints
  • Correct muscle imbalances contributing to the headaches
  • Manage the symptoms

If you have suffered an injury or illness that has impacted your functional mobility or normal activity, you can benefit from the skilled PT services to help you in returning your previous level of mobility. Taping is one specific mode of treatment that we use to help you improve your functional mobility.  It involves placing strips of special tape on your body in specific directions to help improve your mobility and support your joints, muscles, and tendons. Taping works to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s ability to move.

The benefits of taping include:

  • Facilitate functional movement patterns
  • Inhibit painful movement patterns
  • Improve circulation and blood flow
  • Improve muscle contraction
  • Swelling management

Bell's Palsy

It is a form of temporary facial paralysis or weakness on one side of the face due to dysfunction of cranial nerve VII (facial nerve).

Symptoms of Bell’s palsy can vary from person to person and range in severity from mild weakness to total paralysis. The most common symptom is sudden weakness of one side of the face. Other symptoms may include drooping of the mouth, drooling, inability to close eye (causing dryness of the eye), and excessive tearing in one eye. Individuals may also have facial pain or abnormal sensation, altered taste, and intolerance to loud noise.

The prognosis for individuals with Bell’s palsy is generally very good with recovery of some or all facial function within six months.  In some cases, residual muscle weakness lasts longer or may be permanent.

Physical Therapy treatment can assist and accelerate recovery by using different treatment techniques.

Manual therapy to mobilize fascia to free up more motion
assist movements that are compromised
neuromuscular electric stimulation to recover the facial nerve
Creative exercises to put every muscle back to function are some tools we utilize to aid you with your recovery.

Whether you are 20 years old or 70 years old, acute, chronic or post-traumatic pain can get you anytime Physical Therapy is the tool for making your body and whole health improve and get back on track!
